DOOM OVER THE WORLD
So yeah, fall is here. Not much you can do about it if you, like I do, choose to live in this frozen wasteland. But if you wanna go for the old cliché of changing your music taste to go with the weather, I got just the fix for ya.
Witchcraft.
No joke. Half-cheesy name, Noble Prize standard music. Possibly the best band in the world right now. Most definitely the best one hanging around in Sweden at the moment. Formed in Örebro – a town mostly know for it's grindcore, greased up speed fiends, tough guy hardcore moshers and as the former HQ for punk label Burning Ollon - this lot has been kicking the 70's to hell and back since 2000. Did I say Roky Erickson? Pentagram? No, I didn't. And there's no need since album #3 ”The Alchemist” (no D&D jokes please) speaks for me.
”The Alchemist” (damn, I can't even write that title without laughing inside) has no modern sound production whatsoever and is brutal without being distorted, harsh without being fast. Hell, a song like “If Crimson Was Your Colour” carries more weight than all the Vader tunes combined. Just listen and you will see the light. Released here in Europe October 23rd. When you yankees will be blessed I have no idea.
And if you like Witchcraft but still consider it a tiny bit to wimpy, a point of view I totally understand, there's always the coming Electric Wizard album ”Witchcult today”. Maybe the riffs are a bit too standard but the intensity and the groove... Blimey. Satanic, indeed.
