Heavy Trash - "Going Way Out With Heavy Trash"

Heavy Trash - "Going Way Out With Heavy Trash"

I'm absolutely fucking in love with this LP. For those not in the know... Heavy Trash is Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray who you may recognize from the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Speedball Baby, Boss Hog and the mighty Pussy Galore. Add to this impressive list that Matt is pretty much Norton's in-house producer and you've got a pretty impressive resume.

I was turned onto the first Heavy Trash Record by my bartending, DJ pal The Chief Inspector one night at said dude's bar. I dug it. While the S/T debut definitely swings more towards the traditional side of the fence, there were still enough new sounds and approaches interspersed to keep my attention. But on "Going Way Out", Heavy Trash completely outdo themselves.

The record still screams from it's traditional roots, but this time around the Trashmen mix shit up with styles and sounds from the 50's all the way up to now. A perfect example of the diversity of this record: "Outside Chance" (Featured on the latest Sailor Jerry CD) is like a countryfied lost Motown classic while "I Want Oblivion" is straight up fast, sloppy and trashy rock n'roll that has more in common with the Oblivions than Elvis.

I've handpicked 3 of the best songs to share with you and chose the songs I felt illustrated the range of this record best.
